The 2019 Boston Fantasy Baseball League came to an exciting finish. Montenegro's Team, with new Manager, Carlos M., finished with an impressive 220-101-15 record, winning the pennant by 13.5 games. With a win percentage of .677, Montenegro's Team finished with the second-best record in BFBL history. Following Montenegro's Team, the Crushers, Bombers, Clout, Pilots, and Aliens rounded out the playoff positions. The Leaguers, Pujols, Bail Bonds, and Chickens fell short, into the Consolation Bracket. The Chickens, unfortunately finished the season with a 87-234-15 (.281) record, setting a new record, for worst of all time.
To finish the season, the Bay City Bombers and the Clarksville Crushers squared off to decide the 2nd bye position, head-to-head, with minimal games separating the two in the standings. The Crushers prevailed, gaining the second place position, and a bye in the first round of the Field Series playoffs.
While the Texas Leaguers finished 69.5 GB from first place, they were only a small margin (13 GB) from making the playoffs, in the sixth position. The Leaguers made a push in the final six weeks of the season, winning five of their last six matchups, including wins over the high positioned playoff teams, Bombers and Crushers. |
With everything said and done, the Reasonable Clout faced off against the Westport Pilots, and the Bay City Bombers against the Reasonable Clout. In the regular season, the Clout had the upper hand against the Pilots, winning both matchups in Weeks 7 and 16, 12-2 and 10-6 respectively. The Bombers went 2-0-1 against the Aliens in the regular season, with a tie in Week 1, and wins in weeks 10 and 19. The fifth seeded Pilots, and sixth seeded Aliens got the better of their better ranked opponents in the Field Series, winning 14-2 and 9-7 respectively, advancing to face the two, top seeded bye teams, Montenegro's and Crushers.
As of late Friday afternoon, in the Semifinals, the Pilots and Crushers lead their opponents in advancing to the Field Series Finals. The Crushers currently lead the Aliens, 11-4, and the Pilots over Montenegro's 12-4. Head-to-head this season, Montenegro's have the upper hand over the Pilots 2-0-1, and the Aliens and Crushers split their regular season matchups, at a game a piece (1-1). There is still a lot of baseball to be played, a lot of close stat categories, that can swing either way, over the next night and weekend, to decide who will face each other in the Field Series Finals.
The team, and manager to watch in this Field Series Playoffs is the Westport Pilots, and Manager, Jeff P. After taking over the Pilots last season (due to an inactive manager), Jeff P. took the Pilots on a 191-68-13 (.726) winning-tear through the end of the 2018 season, ultimately taking home the 2018 title. With a lead over the number one seeded, Montenegro's, the Pilots, and Manager Jeff P. look to be on a mission to defend their title, and claim the first back-to-back Championship since the 2009-2010 Magic Hat franchise.
